THE GEORGIA RESIDENCY

October 13-18, 2019

Each year, students in the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Master of Arts in Global Policy (MAGP) program select an overseas destination to serve as the focal point for their capstone policy projects. This year, the cohort chose the country of Georgia.

Long a strategic crossroads of Eurasia, Georgia neighbors Russia and the Black Sea to the north and west, Turkey and Armenia to the south, and Azerbaijan to the east. At home, although Georgia has made remarkable progress in the post-Cold War period, it still contends with the turmoil resulting from political and economic change.

MAGP students are grappling with a wide range of specific policy issues, and used the week in Georgia to conduct interviews and site visits. This website is intended to offer a window into their experiences, to capture highlights from time spent exploring a beautiful country, and to share some of the many insights that they drew from government officials, scholars, journalists, diplomats, business leaders, and many other Georgians from different walks of life.
