A Four-Legged Friend in Tbilisi

The journey to Georgia was long but we finally made it! After checking into the hotel and sleeping for a few hours we set out to explore Tbilisi.

The city is filled with eye-catching architecture, inviting cafes, and lively bars. Freedom Square’s statues and commotion are especially impressive. The busy roundabout doesn’t have a single stoplight… drivers essentially just police themselves. Funny to think how that would work back in the States.

Dinner with the MAGP cohort.

The streets came alive as soccer fans prepared for the evening match against Ireland. Irish supporters sang their Gaelic fight songs as they piled into taxis and headed to the stadium.

We continued our adventure around the city and seemed to make a new friend on our walk. Stray dogs roam the streets, and one little guy followed us for blocks and blocks, only stopping every few minutes to bark at cars passing by. He eventually lost interest in us when we turned into a park.

As we made our way back to the hotel we stopped at Stamba Hotel which is housed in the structure of an old Soviet propaganda house. We admired the unusual design and headed back to the hotel to meet for dinner. Dinner was at the top of the funicular which provided a gorgeous view of the city at night. It was a great way to end the first night in Georgia.

The moon rises over Tbilisi.
